Hoboken, NJ – The Christa and Saul Welger Foundation announced today that Steve Serio, a U.S. Paralympian who has been a member of the U.S. Wheelchair Basketball team in the last four Paralympics games, has joined its Board of Directors.
Over the course of his Paralympian career, Serio was part of the bronze medal team at the London 2012 games and won gold medals in Rio in 2016 and Tokyo in 2021. “Steve’s drive and success as an athlete is equally potent off the court. His passion to raise awareness of adaptive sports and creating of more opportunities for people with disabilities perfectly aligns with our mission.” said Jeff Welger, foundation co-founder and son of Christa and Saul Welger.
“As I transition to a different phase in my athletic career, the impact that I can off the court is much more important to me than the impact I can have on it,” said Serio. I’m passionate about creating athletic opportunities for people with disabilities and I’m so humbled to be a part of an organization that has been living these similar values for decades in the adaptive sports community.”
